Belper Goes Green a three day family festival returns after a year away bigger and better, to celebrate everything the local community has to offer in an environmentally conscious way.
Belper Goes Green is an eco, community and arts festival in the heart of Belper, Derbyshire. Organised by Transition Belper www.transitionbelper.org/belper-goes-green/ – it is a celebration of local living, which aims to share ways of reducing our impact on the planet, whilst connecting the local community in a relaxed, safe and uplifting way.

Part of the Belper Walks Festival. Join experienced guide Dr Ian Jackson for a stroll around the waterways of the Belper Mill complex to hear about Belper's industrial mill owners and renewable energy generators who, for nearly 250 years, have continually improved the harnessing of the power of the Derwent. Walk Festival – On the Trail of Slater the Traitor
Start from Belper North Mill | 1.30pm
Part of the Belper Walks Festival. Join Ian Hill on this 5.25 mile picturesque countryside walk to discover the early life of notorious Samuel Slater (‘Slater The Traitor’) and other areas of historical interest along the way. Starting at the North Mill, the walk takes you to the site of Slater’s family home, ‘New Mills’ (Milford) and the historic Holly Bush Inn for a refreshment break before returning to Belper via The Derwent Valley Heritage Way. Customers will also receive a Souvenir Map based on original hand drawing by local artist Andrew Spriggs. Well behaved dogs welcome. Walk Festival – Beth’s Poetry Trail.
Start from the River Gardens Bandstand | 10.30am
Part of the Belper Walks Festival. The trail is named after Beth Fender, a local poet who died in 2002. As a tribute, a trail was installed with poems in various locations around Belper that take into account the setting and displayed using a sympathetic medium. The installations were commissioned from Derbyshire artists and some local poets. The walk will be led by two of the founders of the trail and all profits will go towards supporting the maintenance of the trail. Trevor Griffin leads a one-mile circuit in parkland from Belper Market Place to find clues to the mystery of what happened to the manor house, which was once the headquarters of the royal hunting forest of Duffield Frith. Earthed Up! Permaculture Course

An Introduction to Permaculture inspired by our town and the Belper 250 celebrations. This unique course will consider permaculture ethics of Earth Care, People Care, Fair Shares.
We will explore industrialisation and the Strutts social systems, reflecting on the ethics and learning about worker conditions. As a workers co-op, we are well placed to cover these topics.
This is where the industrial revolution took hold, where the Strutt family created new industrial communities in a pastoral landscape.
There will be practical activities in meadows, by river, in town, and a community garden.
