Music: St Agnes Fountain – A Christmas Concert

Since their first get together, to record the eponymous St Agnes Fountain album in 2001, Fairport Convention's Chris Leslie and multi award winning duo Chris While and Julie Matthews, have brought musical invention and laughter to the star-dust atmosphere of Christmas. Their albums accompany the putting up of a thousand Christmas trees throughout Britain and their magical live performances have endeared them to an ever-growing audience.

Saturday December 12th

Preserving Belper’s Industrial Heritage

No.28, Market Place | 9am-1pm 

A project coordinated by Belper Historical Society (BHS), engaging with communities in and around Belper who may have family artefacts from Belper factories. Volunteer BHS ‘curators’ will help to collect, organise and preserve factory-related photographs, documents and artefacts, creating virtual scrapbooks. 

 

Once catalogued and digitised, original materials will be offered to the Derbyshire Record Office for long term storage.

Sunday December 13th

25th Anniversary of Inscription of Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site

It was December 13th 2001 when the Derwent Valley Mills site was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO, with other cotton industry sites, Saltaire and New Lanark. Special activities are planned to mark the occasion.

The Derwent Valley Mills site were inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO on December 13th 2001. Join Belper Unitarians in closing the year of Belper 250, by marking 25 years since our World Heritage Site was created.

Welcome Meal Project

The Welcome Meal Project is a monthly community meal run by volunteers and offers pay-what-you-can for soup, bread and a pudding is supported by Transition Belper

Sunday December 20th

Walk: Belper Pubs Past and Present  

The Talbot, Bridge Foot, Belper | 2pm-4pm

Step back in time to the Inns and Taverns of the Town to discover their historic past and entertaining stories.  

This easy to moderate one mile walk includes a mid-point stop at either Crich Brew Co Brewery Tap or The Railway, for an opportunity to purchase refreshments. Lasts approximately two hours.

Wednesday December 30th

25 Years of Interpreting Belper  

No.28 Market Place Belper | 2pm-5pm

We end the Belper 250 year with a chance to see how the interpretation of Belper has changed and progressed over the past 25 years. From the Belper Historical Society exhibitions of 2002 onwards, with examples from the Belper North Mill Trust, Belper Town Council and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Coordination Team, there's lots to see and lots to read about Belper and its history. Ends at 5pm with a closing ceremony for Belper 250. Refreshments available.
